ST. PETERSBURG - The Nirvana Swing chair, which glides in a slow and soothing swinging motion, is now available at Leather Express stores in Clearwater and Tampa. The inventor, Tom Garland of Bradenton, patented the mechanism that keeps the chair moving gently along the path of an arc at a speed slower than the resting human heart rate. (Squeeze the handles on the arms to restart the motion when the chair starts to slow.) The chair...won the furniture industry's Pinnacle Award for Best Design in Motion Furniture. The creative Garland holds dozens of patents; his best-known invention is the Diaper Champ diaper pail.
